Amelia Carrillo
Amelia Carrillo is a proud mom of five in a blended family, as well as a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from California State University, Northridge (CSUN). During her undergraduate years, she was a single mother balancing school, parenting, and everyday responsibilities. As a former Raise The Barr scholar, Amelia experienced the importance of having a community that understood and supported her journey as a student parent.
Coming from a Mexican family and speaking both English and Spanish, Amelia values family, community, and the importance of supporting one another. Her experiences as a mother and student have shaped her interest in helping others and supporting families through life's challenges. She hopes to pursue a Master of Social Work within the next two years and to continue growing both personally and professionally. Amelia hopes her journey encourages other student parents to keep pursuing their education and believe in what they can accomplish for themselves and their families.
