Evelyn Batres

Evelyn Batres is a first-generation graduate student and single mother to a 14-year-old daughter. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Due to her passion for addressing the inequities that exist in our education system, Evelyn is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Counseling at the University of La Verne. Her passion for working with students of color in education is demonstrated in the work she does with the EOPS/CARE program at Los Angeles Valley College. As a previous participant in non-profit programs, Evelyn is a product of the impact programs like, Raise the Barr, have on single-parent student trajectories. Her goal as a professional is to empower and support students of color breaking barriers and pursuing their goals both in and out of academia.
