(Los Angeles, CA) –LA native, UCLA All-American, 3X NFL Pro-Bowler, and starter from the top-ranked Minnesota Vikings Defense, Anthony Barr, officially launched the Raise the Barr Emergency Grant Fund for Single Parent Underg(Los Angeles, CA) –LA native, UCLA All-American, 4X NFL Pro-Bowler, and starter from the top-ranked Minnesota Vikings Defense, Anthony Barr, held the Third Annual Raise the Barr Perfect Pairing Wine Tasting Fundraiser on June 26, 2019 at Loyola High School’s historic Rupert Hall courtyard in Los Angeles, CA.

During the evening, over 150 guests enjoyed wine donated from Black and Women-owned wineries and delectable bites from Discover Jewels, a Black Female-owned catering company. The evening also featured whiskey tasting from Greenbar Distillery and a cigar rolling station. Nearly $45,000 was raised through sponsorship, ticket sales, and once-in-a-lifetime silent auction items. Nelson Financial Services, of Scottsdale, Arizona was the Title Sponsor.

Anthony established Raise the Barr in 2016 to break the cycle of poverty for low-income single parent families in Minnesota and California through education. Raise the Barr has awarded nearly $250,000 in scholarships, emergency grants, and other programs to support single-parent families.

Raise the Barr is a partner in the Aspen Institute Ascend Network, a network of leading nonprofit, philanthropic, research, and policy organizations incubating and implementing two-generation (2Gen) strategies across the country.

Raise the Barr collaborates with leaders in the 2Gen approach to provide single parent families access to a variety of comprehensive community resources such as affordable safe housing, career-track college education, quality early childhood education, empowerment and life-skills, and social capital within a supportive community.

Raise the Barr is currently accepting undergraduate scholarship applications from single parents in Minnesota and California. This is the fourth year Raise the Barr has distributed scholarships to help low-income single parents in the two states fund their post-secondary education. Students may apply online at
